How To Prevent Cancer
Cancer is a type of disease that alters our bodies’ cellular structures. Malignant cancer cells have abnormal growth rate, destroy surrounding structures and metastasize to other areas. Here are some ways you can follow to avoid Cancer.
Eat a Healthy Diet
Eat vegetables. We’ve all been taught to eat our greens when we were young. As we all know, vegetables provide us with the necessary nutrients to keep our mind and body healthy. Aside from giving us nutrients, vegetables also boost our immune system to prevent us from acquiring diseases.
Have fruits daily. Fruits contain antioxidants that remove the toxins in our body. They also help repair and replace damaged cells.
Avoid red meat. Meats are high in fat and calorie that are harmful to our bodies.
Choose poultry and seafood. Chicken and fish contain less calories and fats than red meats. Fish also has omega-3 that is good for the heart. Remember to avoid eating the chicken’s skin as fats and calories are usually greater on this area.
Trim down your alcohol consumption. Too much alcohol will predispose you to liver cirrhosis and eventually to liver cancer. An occasional glass or 2 of red **** should be enough.
Avoid fried and grilled foods. Fried foods contain too much fats and calories. Burnt meats contain carcinogens that are not good for you.
Drink plenty of water. Water detoxifies and refreshes our bodies.
Go organic. There are now organic foods available in the market. These are fruits and vegetables grown without the pesticides and other chemicals commonly used to grow them. These chemicals are harmful and may cause cancer.
Take vitamin supplements to be sure that you’re getting your daily requirements of vitamins and minerals.
Live a Healthy lifestyle
Exercise. Being physically active improves your blood circulation and heart function. It also keeps your weight under control, reducing the risk of obesity, which is a major factor for most diseases.
Bathe under the sun every morning. Vitamin D is very important. 10-15 minutes of morning sun everyday is enough to get your daily dose of vitamin D. Remember not to over do it. Morning is the healthiest time to be under the sun.
Avoid tanning parlors. Tanning alters your skin’s cellular structure that may lead to skin diseases and cancer. Also, avoid sunbathing when it’s too hot to reduce your risk of skin cancer.
Use sunscreen when going out on a hot day to protect your skin.
Don’t smoke. A single cigarette contains numerous harmful chemicals. Smoking, like obesity is one of the major factors for the development of various cancers.
Avoid secondhand smoke. Try not to be in places where people smoke to avoid inhaling the smoke they puff out that contains carcinogens.
Practice safe sex to reduce your risk of sexually transmitted diseases. Human Pappilomavirus may be transmitted through unsafe sex. This virus predisposes you to various types of cancer, like cervical cancer.
Be Informed
Know your family medical history. Genetics play an important role in cancer development. There are some types of cancer that may be passed on through one generation to another. It’s important to know this information to properly determine your risk factors and the appropriate preventive measures you can do.
Identify your work risks. Check the environment you have at work. If you’re dealing with chemicals, it’s important to know what these chemicals are and how they may affect your body.
Get screened regularly. Screening tests will be able to help you detect abnormal cellular changes in your body. Early detection will help you stop further development of cancer.
Prevention and early detection are very important in avoiding cancer. Visit your doctor regularly and have a healthy lifestyle. Remember, though there are now treatments for cancer, prevention is still better than cure.
