How to Skateboard
There are three main parts of a skateboard, the wheels, the trucks and the deck. The deck is the board that you stand on; there are many different kinds to choose from. Some popular types of decks are Boom, Blank, Birdhouse, Edwards, Shortys and Zero. The trucks, underneath the deck, hold the wheels in place. You can get abec ones, twos, threes, fours, fives, sixes or sevens (abec ones being the slowest, abec seventh being the fastest). The average speed is abec three. There are both rubber and plastic wheels, with rubber ones being the faster.
Skateboarding Tricks
Ollies: Push off at a quick pace. Once you are going fast enough, put your back foot on the tail and your other foot on the center of the board. Push down on the tail (using your back foot) and move your other foot up to the front trucks of your board. Do the same to your other foot so that it goes onto the bottom trucks. After the board goes into the air, land onto it. When you land, bend your knees so that your board does not absorb the impact. More info on how to ollie.
180 Ollies: Push off at a quick pace. Put your left foot on the top trucks and your right foot on the nose and ollie while your right foot pushes the nose down. Turn the board 180 degrees by pushing it to the right. Land, bend your knees so that your board does not absorb the impact.
Kickflips: Put one foot on the tail, for you to get comfortable, and your other foot on the left side just below the middle of the board. Push your foot on the tail down, when it hits the ground quickly push your other foot forwards, so your board flips in the air. When it has gone right around, and you’re still in the air, land on the board. More info on how to kickflip and how to heelflip.
50-50 Grind: Find a pole that does not have any signs around telling you “not to skateboard”. Push off at a steady pace; ollie onto the pole, keep your balance. When your trucks are on the pole, push back on your tail, and push off.
