How to Work as a Team
Having a team lets you get things done faster and easier. Team members should work towards the same goal and cooperate with each other. Here are some tips you can follow to work as a team.
Delegation of Tasks
People have different skills. Team members should be assigned to work on tasks that they’re good at or know something about. You can’t expect a web designer to write excellent articles and a writer to create various pages and designs for your website. (Tips on how to form a web development team from scratch)
Respect and Cooperation
Your team may have the best researchers, talented writers and creative designers, but without respect and cooperation, you might as well not have any of them. You and the rest of your team should know how to respect each other. Set aside differences and conflicts when working.
Initiative and Enthusiasm
teamworkAs a team member, you should have the initiative to work and get things done on time. It’s also important for you to be happy while working. When you’re always lazy at work and don’t like what you’re doing, it’ll reflect on your over all team performance.
Offer yourself when another member needs help. Use your skills and knowledge to help the whole team. Nobody should have to ask you to do something. Take it upon yourself to help and accomplish tasks that will improve your team’s performance.
Responsibility and Accountability
These 2 things shouldn’t be used interchangeably, but they work hand in hand. Everyone is responsible for everyone else. Responsibility can be shared while accountability can’t.
It’s important for you to realize that though you may have been given different tasks to work on, your job doesn’t stop with your assigned tasks. If you see one member having a hard time with his assignments, it’s your responsibility to help him.
Admit your faults when you make mistakes. You can’t blame any team member for what you did wrong. Don’t be surprised when your team wasn’t able to do a project properly because one member didn’t understand what he’s supposed to do. His fault was not being able to do the job right. Yours was not helping him. He’s accountable for his actions and you’re accountable for yours.
Communication
Your team should be able to communicate with each other properly, whether it’s through instant messaging, emails, phone calls or group meetings. The important thing is to have an open communication with each other so that the entire team is kept informed all the time.
Make sure that all of you know the team’s goal and are working toward the same end. Be open to new ideas and suggestions. Get all your members involve and make them feel that they’re all important parts of the team.
