How To Make Snow Globes

1 Answer

Answer :

There is something magical and nostalgic about snow globes. Once you get started on this project, you will be hooked. This is a fun project for all ages, and it is a great way to recycle all those little toys lying around. With a little extra time and thought, a handmade snow globe can become a fun gift for the person who has everything.

I received one a few years back with my hero Wonder Woman standing proudly, and another year I got one with a shark holding a leg in its mouth with red-dyed water. The possibilities are endless. With few supplies, you will have a great time and make a cool gift.

Materials:
Jars with lids: use your imagination–baby food jars work great as do spice bottles.
Glitter: your choice of color–silver or pearl look good.
Plastic or ceramic figures that fit inside of the jar: only use materials that will not rust or dissolve in the water.
Acrylic epoxy cement, or any strong glue or adhesive sealant that is waterproof.
Distilled water
Glycerin: available at the drugstore–this adds viscosity and makes the glitter fall slowly.
Spray paint: if you choose to spray paint the lid.

Instructions:
1. Wash and thoroughly dry the jars and lids. If you would like to paint the lids, spray paint them and let them dry.

2. When everything is completely dry, arrange the figures on the lid and put the jar on top to make sure they fit. When you are satisfied with your arrangement, glue the figures down and let them dry thoroughly. (You might want to lightly sand the surface of the lid for better adhesion.)

3. Fill the jars to the brim with distilled water. Add a few drops of glycerin and a pinch of glitter.

4. Screw the lid with the glued down figures on the jar tightly. Do this over the sink or a dish since some water will spill out. If you want, add a bead of your adhesive around the top of the jar rim before screwing on the lid.

5. You’re done. Turn the jar right and set it upside down on the lid.
