A sound is a type of wave created by the vibration of matter. The sensation of hearing is created when this vibration is held in the human ear. These waves flow through gaseous , liquid and solid matter. Under normal conditions, the speed of sound flowing through the air is 8.1 miles per hour or 343.4 meters per second. As sound waves flow through matter, all particles of that matter begin to vibrate. Vibration once per second is called 1 Hz. Not all vibrations are caught in the human ear and do not create the feeling of hearing.
