The first madrasa in history was established at Arkam in the house of Arkam Ibn Abil Arkam (R) in Mecca. About five hundred men and women converted to Islam during the migration from Mecca to Medina. The most important thing for these neo-Muslims after their conversion to Islam was to get to know and learn Islam fully. To that end, the Prophet (peace be upon him) founded the first Islamic educational institution in Darul Arkam with the first group of converts to Islam. It was the home of the neo-Muslim Arkam Ibn Abul Arkam. The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to do da'wah work in this house. Besides, he used to teach Qur'an , prayers and morality among the newly converted Muslims . This was the first formal Islamic learning center in the history of Islam.
