The term secularism has a wide meaning. However, secularism usually refers to the separate expression of state and religion. In this case, it means to run the state from outside the religion or religious rituals. In this case, the law of the state does not depend on any particular religion. In addition, religious freedom is important in a secular state. The state does not favor any religion. According to this doctrine , the government will not interfere in any religion, will not believe in any religious belief and will not give any additional benefits to any religion. No one will be forced to practice religion. People of all religions will enjoy equal rights. Political decisions in a secular state will depend on information and evidence , not on any religious belief. That is to say , " religion belongs to everyone." From a political point of view , secularism is a movement to separate religion and state , calling for a common law and a society free of all forms of religious discrimination, rather than a religion-based law. The term "secularism" was first used by the British writer George Jacob Eliak (1818-1904) in 1851. George Jacob expressed his idea of secularism in order to bring order to society , without any criticism of religion . He elaborated on the doctrine, saying, "Why is secularism not a doctrine against Christianity?" It is an independent entity. It does not question the existence of religion , but encourages others to be secular. " Berry Cosmin, who does more research on secularism, divides it into two parts. 1. Strict secularism Flexible secularism. George Jacob defined secularism in his 1897 publication on secularism as follows: The life of secularism, based solely on human discretion , is intended for those who wish to analyze the indefinite or inadequate , unreliable or unbelievable theology of religion. There are three main bases for this , namely: - (1) Development: Building life on the basis of moral qualities. (2) Science provides human beings with sustenance. (3) The work that is good should be evaluated in a good way and the overall welfare of the worldly life should be given more priority. In Turkey , the most famous secular organization is the Atatুrk Thought Association ( ADD), which contributes to the republican protests and gathers in 2008 in four major Turkish cities. At that rally, about two million people , most of them women , appealed for protection of the secularism of Mostafa Kemal Ataturk. The Leicester Secular Society , founded in 1851, is the oldest secular society.
