After the breakup of Yugoslavia, Serbia occupied the city of Sebrenica in June 1995. The city of Sebrenica was declared a safe zone in accordance with UN Resolution 619. But the Serbs occupied the city without any hindrance from the Dutch UN peacekeepers, killing thousands of Muslim civilians who had taken refuge there and raping thousands of women. The massacre was carried out by barbaric Serb forces led by Ratko Miladic. This is the largest genocide and ethnic cleansing campaign in Europe since World War II. The genocide was carried out by Serbs in the face of the inaction of Dutch peacekeepers and with the help of Greek volunteer forces. In 1995 , 8,382 Muslim men and boys were killed by Bosnian Serb Christian militants .
