Prehistory According to Abu Muhammad al-Hasan ibn Ahmad al-Hamdani, the Banu Khayraj settled in Yathrib in the 2nd century along with Banu Aus from eastern Yemen. But over time, the two tribes became enemies. According to Jewish commentators, a few years before the Hijrah, the two tribes were involved in the Battle of Butas. At that time there were three Jewish tribes in Medina called Banu Qaynuqa , Banu Nadir and Banu Quraiza. During the war, Nadir and Quraiza sided with Banu Aus and Qaynuqa sided with Banu Khayraj. After a long battle the second side was defeated. Banu Khayraj is of Nusaiba tribe, the caretaker of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem. They came to Jerusalem during the Muslim conquest in the 7th century. Hijrat Muhammad After his migration to Medina, he settled the dispute between Banu Aws and Banu Khayraj.
