What were the drawbacks of Rutherford’s model of an atom? -Science

1 Answer

Answer :

Rutherford’s model could not explain the stability of the atom. Revolving electrons would lose energy as they are the charged particles and due to acceleration, charged particles would radiate energy. The orbit of the revolving electron will reduce in size, following a spiral path as shown in the figure and ultimately the electron should fall into the nucleus. In other words, the atom should collapse.
