(i) The industrialists were very hesitant to introduce new machines for a variety of reasons. (ii) Due to abundance of human labour, industrialists had no problem of labour shortage or high wage costs. Machines required large capital investment. (iii) Goods with intricate designs and specific shapes (like hammer, axes, etc.) required human skill, not mechanical technology. (iv) The upper classes preferred things produced by hand.
