If you are planting eyes that have roots, put the eye pointing up and the roots down. If you are planting a plant then make sure the stalk is up and put the roots down. Some can get twisted in shipping, storage and handling.Did the row about a foot deep, line it with ashes and bone meal, old manure or compost . Put the plants in and gently cover up.  It takes a lot of water, sunshine and warm weather to grow potatoes. Good luck.
