Oh it sucked. I had the biggest crush on this girl starting from grade 7. I asked her out a few years after graduating college and after making something of myself, and we had absolutely nothing to talk about. That was probably my most disappointing first date ever. I made the mistake of putting her on this mental pedestal, and while she was still gorgeous all those years later, she was not remotely closed to what I had hoped for.
