Firstly, the new Knight Rider is godawful in every sense imaginable. Stop watching it, you’ll melt your brain, leaving just a puddle of grey goo on the floor and mucus dripping from your ears. Secondly, licensing issues. Criterion Games decided it best to keep the spirit of the original cars (the four hailing from Dukes of Hazard, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters and Knight Rider) rather than deal with royalties. Because these “legendary cars” are based off of pre-existing game models and the DeLorean and Trans Am share certain similarities (both look remarkably similar to the in-game car, Jensen something-or-other), they opted to use the newer KITT rather than the old one.
