Our actions have a ripple effect like throwing a rock into a lake. Seemingly small acts of kindness make it more likely for the beneficiary of that act to do something nice for someone else. It doesn’t have to be something monetary like paying someone’s bridge toll. It can be something as small as holding a door for someone, saying “pardon me”, or letting someone know when something has fallen out of their pocket.
