answer:Okay, so, I went out searching for a website of a campervan seller in Perth, and I found Traveller’s Autobarn. (Apparently Aussies spell “travelers” with two L’s.) Anyway, I figured that was a good place to start. Here’s the link:
https://www.travellers-autobarn.com.au/ . It seems like they frequently have travelers buy campervans and cars there, so you’re not alone! As for insurance, “The minimum legally required insurance is included with all registered vehicles. This is the compulsory third party personal (CTP) insurance. Known as the ‘green slip’ only in NSW. As long as the vehicle is registered it has this insurance and you do not need to sight the green slip.” As for how to register it, I went to
http://everything2.com/title/Backpacker%2527s+guide+to+buying+a+car+in+Australia for more information. This is a pretty good guide. From what I can tell, as long as the already-present registration isn’t up on the vehicle, you can fill it out with whoever is selling you the car and send it off. Then, since Australia offers a free forwarding service, just give your name to a post office in a big city. Since Traveller’s Autobarn seems so helpful, I suggest that you email them at
[email protected] with any other questions. They even have a search were you’ll be able to locate a vehicle when the time comes. Hope I could help, and best of luck in your travels! (Take me with you! ;)
