I’m very happy with my Volvo XCountry V70 (not sure about the ground clearance though.) Mine’s a 2008 that I got in 2010 and still going strong. Mileage is about 18–20 so not what you’re looking for there either. But the drive is great and feels safe and roomy without being huge and the bells and whistles are lovely. Subaru Forrester might be one to look at – or one of the Toyotas again.
