Judy starts a sentence, lady anticipates (incorrectly) what Judy’s going to say, and she ceases to listen and instead starts coming up with her response. She misses the end of the sentence and responds to what she thought Judy was going to ask, which is different from what Judy actually asked. I’m guilty of this sometimes, especially when someone has a way of phrasing things that is very different from how I would phrase them. I end up hearing what I expect to hear instead of what is actually said.
