Its a big deal in the churches in my city. The Bishop quoted some studies that black on black crime—more blacks have been killed by blacks in six months than have been killed by the Ku Klux Klan over 90 years. An actual study was cited. Stats were given as to how rare shootings by cops were compared to random shootings and deliberate criminal activity among blacks in inner cities I understand the “mindset” as to why this statement (more blacks killed by blacks in six months than by the klan in 90 years) is offensive. But the real concern is that black neighborhoods are literal shooting galleries. Other comments were made that in times when blacks were an oppressed, segregated minority, they had neighborhood stores, restaurants, churches, etc. and were a real community who supported each other and had families with fathers in the home. After the Civil Rights act of 1964, however, you were not allowed to get a government check if a father was in the home. And how this has led to the chaos and outright societal breakdown among blacks and their communities. Basically, old school blacks and in about half the black churches—reflect the views of the Bishop Other blacks and black churches believe more in the ideas of the liberal side and that we need more social welfare programs and that blacks are still victims of societal and government discrimination.
