If you live in an area of the country that is prone to hurricanes, it never hurts to be prepared. The National Hurricane Center recommends that a preparedness kit include enough food and water for three to seven days as well as clothing, medicines, toiletries, flashlights, radios, and pet care items if applicable. Store your important documents such as insurance and medical records, bank account numbers, and Social Security card in a waterproof container or an airtight plastic bag. Also, don't forget to keep a set of tools close at hand to aid in post-storm cleanup.
