How do I share my keyboard, monitor and mouse between 2 computers with a KVM switch?

A KVM switch allows a user to control more than one computer/monitor at the same time. It has many ports and USB plugs. They can be controlled with a remote as well. To set up, you just get the appropriate wires and plug them in from each computer.
