When a person who has an issue with drugs or alcohol puts the wrong thing into their mouth they call it falling off of the wagon. One could easily use the same statement about the person who goes off of their diet. After all, when you go off of your diet you have done the same thing, put something you should not have into your mouth. You're addiction for something, whether it is chocolate addiction, a need for Coke or simply an insane love of carbs, the odds are that you have an itch that you need to scratch when you go off of your diet. So, what do you do when you have gone off of the wagon?Well, you have two choices. Either you can let this day become the day that you went off of your diet completely, or you can let it be a learning experience. When you choose to go off entirely you are giving up the fight, and we are not about giving up here. We are about making the most of what you have, and what you can do to fix your weight issues. So, lets throw out that choice. That brings you to option two. You can, to quote a popular song, "Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again." Yes, that is right. You can have your bad day and not treat it like the zombie apocalypse. Your attitude really matters here. If you allow the one bad thing you did to ruin your day and you will do more damage. Allow it to get you off of track longer and you will only be doing your self a disservice. So how can you get yourself back on track? Well, there are a few different things that you can do to help yourself along the way. Lets look at some of those choices:Forgive yourself - You made a mistake, which means nothing else than you are human. If you constantly beat yourself up over it you are likely only to make more mistakes in the future, and feel bad about your diet. Acknowledge that you messed up and then move on.Do not dawdle - If you use one mistake as an excuse to make others than you will only create a situation where your mistakes snowball. Then you will end up forming a bad habit and that bad habit will drag your down over the long run.Get up and move - When you eat something bad you can negate the damage by exercising. That way you do not hurt yourself too badly for the next time you weigh in.Eat better today - If you had chips and dessert with lunch you have the option to eat later at dinnertime, or skip a bedtime snack. So consider how you can mitigate the damage right away.See, you can fix this. Do not fall off of the wagon, believe in yourself and your ability to recover.
