Hi, I might be able to give you some help here. The end of the cable has a short in it, or the jack on the laptop has the short? If it's the cable, you should be able to find a replacement that you can rewire onto the end at RadioShack or online at various retailers. It should only require a basic soldering ability to do this repair. If the short is in the laptop, it is probably a lot trickier and a certified laptop repair center would probably need to take a look at it.
