Let me first start by saying that "shock collars" have come a long way with the advancements of technology and actually have no electricity in them. Thus, they do not "shock" the dog, but vibrate, getting the dog's attention. At its lowest level the vibration feels like a cell phone vibration. I would not recommend buying a collar and using it without professional training. I've heard of many stories where owners have really ruined a dog's temperament because they were using the device incorrectly (i.e. as negative reinforcement).
