Where is hydrogen peroxide used?
Everyone is familiar with such a substance as hydrogen peroxide. It is also called “heavy water” in another way, because the chemical formula differs from H2O by the presence of a second oxygen atom: H2O2. The gas, so essential for human respiration, is a very powerful oxidizing agent, and it is this gas that makes hydrogen peroxide such a chemically active liquid.
Use in cosmetics
Hydrogen peroxide (or rather, hydrogen peroxide) is a very corrosive compound. It enters into violent reactions, and this property is used for cosmetic purposes.
For example, to bleach hair before dyeing it. Hydrogen peroxide (usually in tablets, but also in liquid form) is mixed with a dye and applied to the hair. What happens at this time? The natural pigment is, as it were, burned out with "heavy water", and a new color takes its place. In addition, if you treat your hair with a special solution of this substance, without applying paint, then it will become light, so brunettes turn into blondes.
Peroxide is an ideal color-killing agent for cosmetic whitening. Therefore, the substance is actively used in dental products aimed at obtaining perfectly white teeth. However, there is one important "but" here. In the oral cavity, "heavy water" can cause significant burns to the mucous membrane and cause injury. Such funds must be used only by a dentist.
Medical use
Medicine also did not stay away from peroxide. Its aggressiveness is poorly tolerated by microbes and bacteria, or, in other words, they die. This is why the substance is used to treat purulent wounds. It is only important to use a weak solution; you can buy hydrogen peroxide at any pharmacy.
The substance does an excellent job if it is necessary to urgently stop the blood. Entering into a reaction, it contributes to the disinfection of the wound.
Few people know, but hydrogen peroxide also helps with tonsillitis, stomatitis. To do this, its 3% solution should be diluted with a glass of water and used as a gargle. Kills all germs and speeds up recovery.
Finally, the liquid is great for treating young children. Unlike iodine or the well-known brilliant green, peroxide does not sting at all, but disinfects just as well. There is simply no better remedy for babies.
Industrial use
Hydrogen peroxide turned out to be necessary in production as well. It is used to bleach paper or textiles. A more gentle and at the same time active oxidizing agent has not yet been found.
And finally, there is one more question: since it is heavy, but still water, can you drink it? Even some methods of healing the body by means of peroxide were invented. But in reality, it's best not to risk it. This is a rather aggressive substance, moreover, an oxidizing agent, and it is not recommended to drink it. But it's still worth having in your home bins: it will heal the wounds, and it will help to discolor the hair.
