Can I run a 3-phase motor on 2 separate single-phase connections?

1 Answer

Answer :

No, it is not possible to run a 3-phase motor on two separate single phase connections. In single phase, there is only one waveform which goes to zero several times in one second. If you use two single phases, there will be instances when the motor will run on single phase while the second phase will go to zero due to alternate waveform. The motor will draw more current than usual, causing damage to the winding.
