Do I need a passport to Romania?

I know that EU countries do not need a passport in principle, but is this also true for Romania? One of my acquaintances was not admitted with an old kind of person at the time.

Answer :

That's right. They were not allowed in with old people, only with a plastic card or passport. However, this is not so topical, because I don't think anyone has an old ID card anymore.
