How to Grow Green Beans
It should be noted that the seeds for green beans like warm soil. So never plant seeds until all frost has passed and the temperature of the soil is steadily above 64 degrees.
Like many other seeds, green beans seeds like a fertile soil that is well drained. Fresh soil is always preferred as opposed to a soil that has recently had other vegetables planted in it. This lessens the chance of contracting any bad diseases from previous plants.
It is wise to stagger the plantation of your seeds. You can do this by planting the seeds every 2 weeks during the season. This way you can have a continuous supply of green beans during their growing season.
Planting the Green Bean Seeds
Green beans seeds like a lot of sunshine and a well-drained fertile soil. Fertilize the area beforehand with a good organic fertilizer from your local garden shop, following the given instructions. You can also add the fertilizer to the furrows as you dig them.
When you are planting bush type beans, you can place the fertilizer into the hole as you are creating it. For example, dig a two-inch furrow, put fertilizer into the furrow, fill the furrow up to half way with soil, place the green bean seeds into the hole, then cover to the top with soil.
Plant the seeds about 2 inches apart from each other in rows.
If you are planting pole beans, you should plant them on small mounds or hills. The moulds should be about three feet apart in rows that are three or four feet wide.
Stick a stake into the ground in the centre of one of the moulds and place about 4 beans seeds around the pole. Water them well to ensure the seeds are kept moist. Keep an eye out, as the seeds should start to sprout with a week.
Possible Problems
There are a few common problems that you may encounter when growing green bean seeds, they can suffer from fungus when the plants themselves become too moist. To limit the chances of this happening you must ensure that the plants are planted in rows far enough apart from each other to lessen the moisture levels.
During dry periods, you should water the seeds at least once a week. When the seeds start to blossom you must keep them moist otherwise the blossoms will drop off.
To increase green bean production you should keep picking the beans once grown, the more you pick the more will grow.
