How to Get Gum Out of Hair
Gum and hair are never great together. Unfortunately, you find some bubblegum tangled in your treasured locks. Before you run to the barber to get a haircut, stop. There are some simple tricks that will help you get rid of that gum dilemma. Here are a few methods you can try.
What You’ll Need:
Salt water
Ice
Smooth peanut butter
Towel
Shampoo
Old toothbrush
Hair mousse
Eucalyptus oil
Cotton
Comb
Cooking oil
The Ice Method
First, soak your hair in salt water, to lower the temperature. Afterward, get some ice from the freezer and ice the gum in your hair, rubbing it all over the affected areas. When the gum hardens, it will be easier to take off. Take it out carefully with your fingers.
Using Peanut Butter
This tactic works better while the gum is still squishy and wet, and not dried out.
You need peanut butter with a lot of oil content, at least 51 grams of fat for every 100 grams. Opt for smooth peanut butter, not the crunchy type, since they have less oil content.
Put the peanut butter all over the affected area, mixing it in with an old toothbrush. Work the butter in with long outward and downward strokes.
Get a dry towel and use it to pull on the peanut butter, which will have the gum clinging with it.
Shampoo your hair to remove the peanut butter completely.
Try Cooking Oil
If there’s no peanut butter available, you can simply use regular cooking oil. Get any kitchen cooking oil, such as Canola, vegetable or olive oil. Apply it to the gum in the hair, as well as the surrounding area. Let it stay there for two to three minutes, then pull out the gum. Wash your hair properly, afterward.
Eucalyptus Oil Tactic
Eucalyptus can also work great on chewing gum. Just soak some cotton in Eucalyptus oil, then wipe it on the chewing gum on your hair. The gum will appear as if it’s melting off.
Use Hair Mousse
Another effective solution is to use hair mousse. Just cover the whole affected area with the mousse, then comb the gum out. It’ll come out smoothly.
These tried and tested techniques will get the gum out of your hair effectively, but if all these fail, there’s a last resort you can try: get a new hairdo. Who knows, maybe you’ll even like your new look!
