Polymer Power. Chewing gum is practically a type of man-made rubber. In other words, it is comprised of polymers, which are made up from molecules that are very lengthy. Gum’s function as a polymer makes it elastic, enjoyable to chew, and sticky. In fact, gum is highly attracted to asphalt’s polymers. Thus, it sticks to it very quickly.
Clean with Steam. To remove gum from carpeting, a high pressure steam cleaner is your first option. It is also wise to use a quality cleaning solution and extremely hot water. Steam cleaning will remove the gum, as well as any stain from it.
Ice-Flavored Gum. The second option is to use ice to freeze the gum. Place ice cubes into a plastic bag. Then freeze the gum as much as possible. Roughly fifteen minutes should be enough time. After the gum is frozen, gradually peel the gum from the bottom. You could also scrape it away with a butter knife. It is important not to yank out the gum quickly. If the gum becomes sticky again, then freeze it again. This will keep the gum in a single piece. Thus, less mess will be created. While peeling, you could also place ice between the gum and carpet. This will keep the gun frozen and will make it easier to lift it off the carpet.
Elbow Grease. Another solution is to use a cleaner that is carpet-safe. Some cleaners are custom-made to remove various types of stains. Apply the cleaner to a sponge. Then begin scrubbing until the gum has been removed from the carpet.
Clean with Cleaner. Try using an all-purpose spray cleaner. Spray the cleaner onto the gum then use a brush to scrub the gum. After a while, the majority of the sticky mess will roll up into tiny balls. You can then use your fingers to remove the remainder of the gum.
Peanut Butter and Gum. It may be difficult to believe, but peanut butter also works well. Rub some peanut butter on the gum. Afterwards, the gum will roll up into tiny balls. Then use a moist rag that is a little soapy. The rag can remove both the balls of gum and the peanut butter.
Removing Gum with Muscle. A surprising home remedy for removing gum from carpets, is muscle pain treatment. Make sure that the treatment contains methyl salicylate. Methyl salicylate is a natural product that many types of plants produce. After placing a small amount on the Gum, use a plastic bag or cloth to remove the sticky mess.
