How to Take Care of Your Hair
Our hair is not called our crowning glory for nothing. Whether we admit it or not, the state of our hair contributes greatly to our appearances. Healthy hair is usually a sign of a healthy body. Here’s how you can take care of your hair and look your best 24/7.
Eat Healthy
Healthy hair comes from a healthy body. Protein, Vitamin A and Vitamin E all contribute in building stronger cells and subsequently, stronger hair. Protein-rich food include milk, cheese, soy milk, lean meats, fish and poultry. Food rich in vitamin A include liver, sweet potatoes, spinach and cantaloupe. Food rich vitamin E include whole grain food, leafy green vegetables, sardines and oats. Vitamin E oil directly applied on hair helps keep your hair healthy as well.
Use the Right Shampoo
Choose a shampoo based on your own needs. There are many shampoo products out there that cater to dry hair, oily hair, and chemically-treated hair. This step is largely a trial-and-error exercise, as there are many factors that may affect your hair, such as daily activities, climate and genetics. Just be patient and be willing to try things that are suited for your hair conditions.
Brush Your Hair

To brush your hair properly, run your fingers through your hair first, getting rid of the bigger tangles. Use a good wooden comb to brush your hair–never use a metal comb. Tie back your hair with a scrunchie or a hair net to prevent tangles from developing.
Limit Chemical Treatments
Chemical treatments such as hair bonding, hair relaxing, perms, hair color treatment and others can be very harsh on your hair. Try to limit your hair chemical treatments to one or two treatments. Give your hair a break from being exposed to chemicals several months in a year. Frequent chemical treatments can cause permanent damage that or damages that can be hard to reverse.
Blow drying your hair can also cause your hair to thin and break. Try to towel dry or air-dry your hair as much as possible.
Hair Problems
Hair problems like dandruff, hair loss and hair breakage can be managed. There are many products out there that can help you with your dandruff. Their chemistry includes common substances known to get rid of dandruff, such as salycilic acid, zinc, tars or selenium sulfide. Like shampoo, finding the one that works the best for you may be a trial-and-error test for you.
Hair loss can be solved by changing your hairstyle, your diet or even the hair products that you use (Learn how to get rid of hair loss). Should none of these work, consult a doctor.
Hair breakage can be caused by poor health, harsh hair chemical treatment and improper maintenance of your hair. Try to stop chemical treatments and eat better. Cut your hair in the meantime to encourage a healthier growth.
