Use a sand paper of 80 or 100 grit. Sanding will help the paint adhere better on the floor.
Clear the floor with dust after sanding.
Apply an ample amount of oil-based primer on the floor with your roller. Use a brush for applying primer on the sides.
There’s no need to have several layers of primer. One layer is enough. Wait until the primer dries before applying your paint.
Paint your floor using and oil-based paint. Remember to wait until the layer dries before applying another coat.
When the last layer of paint have dried, apply a few layers of oil-based polyurethane. Again, just like when adding paint layers, you have to wait until the layer dries before applying another coat
Tips:
Make sure to use a good roller. Cheap rollers usually don’t create a nice and smooth finish.
Degreasing is very important when painting your floor. Make sure to totally get rid of any traces of wax and dirt before starting to paint.
Add more style by creating designs on your floor. You can use stencils or you can also directly draw your designs on the floor.
Wait until the paint dries, have your stencils ready and place them on your floor.
Carefully trace your designs.
If you have a complex design that requires painting over the previous drawing, wait until that layer is fully dry or risk smudging your drawing.
Frequently wash your brushes so you don’t accidentally mix colors.
Painting a linoluem floor may take a lot of time. Consider this as a weekend project and have fun designing your floor.
