How to Paint Stripes on a Wall
Stripes are a great way to add dimension and character to any wall. If you’re tired of the same plain-looking walls in your home, stripes can give your home a very artistic, cheery, or sophisticated feel. Ladder
Paintbrush
Steps
If necessary, mix and prepare the paint by mixing it with paint thinner. You may also want to prepare the wall by painting a layer of primer paint on it.
painting the wall
Paint the wall completely and evenly with the flat matte wall paint, and allow the paint to dry.
Measure the width and the length of the stripes with a pencil and measuring tape. You can lay vertical or horizontal stripes, or even try your hand at diagonal or checkerboard striping. You don’t have to mark the wall with a complete straight stripe; use small marks on the edges of the wall instead.
Lay the painter’s tape using the marks on the wall. You may need to lay some flaps of extra tape on the top and bottom of the tape strip to make it easier for you to remove it afterward.
Go over the wall again with a thin, even coat of glossy latex paint, and allow the paint to dry.
Once the paint has dried, carefully remove the painter’s tape. If the latex paint is too thick, you may end up with thick flakes of paint. Go over the flaking paint with a paintbrush dipped in latex paint.
Any color scheme or design will do if you want a striped wall. If you get really good at it, you may want to make intricate designs that make your wall look like it has been professionally airbrushed and stenciled. With striped walls, that boring look of a flat wall will no longer have to be a problem, and you can add a new element of design into your own home.
