How to Paint Kitchen Cabinets
If you think your kitchen is starting to look boring, it might be time for you to do a little redecorating, and you can start by painting your kitchen cabinets. It’ll give the space a lovely and more homey appearance. Painting kitchen cabinets isn’t hard, as long as you know what to do and what materials to use.
What You’ll Need:
Kitchen cabinets
Screwdriver
220 grit sandpaper
Table
Paintbrush
Wiz roller with a foam roller cover
Oil based primer
Oil paint
New cabinet hardware (optional)
Water and soap solution
Clean rags
Old newspapers
Procedure:
Determine which kitchen cabinets you’re going to paint. You should also decide on a paint color to use. Make sure it blends well with the room’s interior design, as well as the cabinet hardware. If your cabinet hardware also looks worn out, consider replacing them with new ones. You can easily buy some at a hardware store.

Remove all the doors of the cabinets, laying them down on a table covered with newspaper. Take out all the hardware, too, including the latches, door knobs and hinges. Never paint over them, or it’ll look messy and installing them back may become difficult because of the paint.
Use a mild water and soap solution to clean the cabinets’ surface area and scrub with a clean cloth. Make sure you remove dust and grease buildups thoroughly. Rinse the surface, using another rag, then allow the wood to dry.
Get the 220 grit sandpaper and sand the exposed surfaces lightly. This allows the paint to stick better. Make sure you check if there are imperfections or rough areas. Smooth them with the sandpaper.
Prepare an oil-based primer and apply it all over the exposed surface. Because they produce a harder finish and last longer, oil-based paint products are better than ordinary paint. Compared to latex, oil primer and paint holds up better.
When the primer has dried, sand the surface of the cabinets lightly.
Start applying the oil paint to all the surfaces of the kitchen cabinet, including the kitchen doors you removed. Make sure you don’t miss a spot. Once you’re done with this first coat, allow the paint to dry. Once it is, apply a second coat of paint. For a better and smoother cabinet finish look, use a wiz roller with a foam roller cover.
Wait for all the surfaces to dry completely, before reinstalling them with the hardware.
A kitchen looks more pleasing when you’ve given your cabinets a cheery color. With these easy steps, you’re on your way to redecorating your home by yourself.
