How to Decorate an Office Cubicle
Your office cubicle is your environment, and basically your whole world for at least eight hours a day. Decorating it will help you feel more comfortable in work and it will be more inviting for other people who might drop in to chat! Here’s how to decorate an office cubicle.
Clean up. Before even attempting to decorate your office, make sure that you start with a clean slate. Wipe the surfaces and ask your office janitor to vacuum corners and the chair.
Start with the cubicle walls. They usually come in drab colors, so you may want to spruce it up a little bit. You can use your favorite colors, but choose ones that in muted shades. Loud colors can make your eyes become more strained, even if you are using your favorite colors; but bright colors as accents can help you feel more energized. You can felt paper or cartolina paper for this purpose, attached with two-sided tape or thumbtacks.
Function over form. Before putting up any other decorations, make sure that you have room for the things that you actually need. Document trays, your drinking mug, pen holders, note pads and your telephones should all be within easy reach. Arrange all necessities in such a way that would make it easy for you to use. Put everything else away in your desk or drawer.
Make the necessary items in your cubicle look nice. If you’ve got old office desk items, request for new ones, or get your own. Get a desk calendar that has a nice design or a pen holder with an interesting shape. This should make your desk look nicer.
Decorate the walls with small pictures of your family, your kids or yes, even your pet. Put them in small frames or against a hard cardboard backing. It’s usually wise to use copies of the pictures instead of the original copy, so you can resize them to appropriate sizes and you won’t fret if they get lost.
Putting up your child’s drawings are also acceptable. People understand that these drawings can brighten your day with a glance. They also make for a good conversation starter.
Put a small potted plant or a cactus on your desk. Not only is the green color soothing for your eyes, but plants also provide fresh oxygen for you to enjoy.
If you like a particular piece of artwork, like a miniature copy of a Picasso, a movie poster or a postcard of a place, you can put that up too.
Neatness also makes things look more pleasing to the eye. Keep your work space clean and neat, and you’ll start to feel less cluttered yourself.
The key to decorating your office cubicle is: Don’t overdo it. It’s still a place of work, so make sure your space is still presentable to, say, the company president. Limit pictures and illustrations to two or three pieces. Do not clutter your space with knick knacks that will get in the way of your work. Just have enough that you can all pack them away in under 30 minutes.
