Some people say that the office desk is an extension of its occupant’s personality. Geeks at heart often place model robots and action figures on the most visible corners of their desk. Fashionable individuals normally have a stack of fashion magazines and fashion accessories arranged all over their desks. Minimalists, on the other hand, love to have almost nothing on their office desks.
As you can see, a lot of employees attempt to create a second home in the office through their office desks. If you do not currently have your own desk in your office, you can make one and find work a whole lot more enjoyable.
The office desk is the primary fixture in an office workstation. It holds all the important equipment and accessories that an employee needs to make his or her job easier. Sturdily crafted, an office desk can be quite pricey given the high quality materials used and the high cost of labor.
Many office desks are priced over a hundred dollars, but if you build your own office desk you will not have much problems with the costs. You will just need some woodworking skills and the patience of an office workhorse.
Materials Used:
Birch boards
wood glue
chisel
hammer
nails
handsaw
paint
paper
pencil
metal cabinet handles
First, sketch the outline and the dimensions of your desired office desk on a piece of paper. Take note of the provided space in your office and the amount of space you need to move freely behind your office desk.
Once you’ve finished sketching the outline, get a long birch board and use a handsaw and a chisel to mold the surface of your desk. Remember that the surface will not only hold the computer and your paperwork, but also your personal belongings and rest your head and arms.
Once you have created the desk surface, you can establish the base of your desk. Form two square pillars using your birch boards. The two squares will be the bases for your two sets of side cabinets. When you have formed both square pillars, create three cabinet drawers for each. Make the bottom drawers the largest, the middle ones slightly smaller than the bottom ones and the topmost drawers the smallest among the three.
When you have completed both square pillars, line them up and place a significant amount of space between them. That space will serve as the legroom area of your office desk. Grab a long birch board and position it adjacently to cover both square pillars.
Nail the rectangular board to both pillars to finish the base and cabinet areas of your office desk. Now, you can affix the surface to the base by nailing it to the square pillars. You can also install a small cabinet on the top portion of your leg room area for your personal items and documents.
At this point, the only thing missing from your office desk is a good paint job. Observe your office’s theme and color scheme, and paint your desk a color that blends with your office. Install metal handles that have appropriate designs to further push the theme of your office desk. After finishing the customizing stage, you can finally rest easy and lay your legs on top of your new office desk’s surface.
