How to Repair a Lawnmower
Having a small garden in the house can be quite a refreshing sight and can make you feel elevated when you walk through it. This can turn into a completely different sight if the lawn is neglected for a long time. This is where lawnmowers come into the picture. Over many generations of lawn enthusiasts, lawnmowers have been an inseparable part of the entire Sunday exercise. The advancements in technology have made lawnmowers better in performance and handling. In order to repair a malfunctioning lawnmower in a hassle-free way, you need to follow some basic steps in an organized manner.
The spark plug lead must be properly removed from the spark plug before beginning any repair work. This is a very important step for your safety.
For a four-stroke mower, which has separate compartments for oil and petrol, the spark plug must point skywards, and the mower must be tipped up.
For a two-stroke lawnmower, which has a mixed oil and petrol box, the spark plug can face anywhere and the mower can tip in any direction.
To replace the blade or blade disk, it is advisable to remove the spark plug. Then you can lower a string into the machine to lock the piston while you are changing the blade.
While fixing the mower, it is a good thing to clean the air filter so that the overall performance of the lawnmower is enhanced.
If the lawnmower refuses to start even after repeated efforts, chances are that the spark plug needs to be changed. In the event of sputtering sounds coming from the machine, a change of the air filter would be a good idea. Any rattling sound is an indicator of a loose blade. Cleaning the blades of the mower after it has been used is a very effective way of keeping the mower in good working condition for a long time. In case of any internal part damage, you will have to slowly and systematically remove all the parts until you find the faulty part. This can be a long process but if it is done in an organized way, it can be fun too. One must be very careful while handling the blades and other razor-sharp parts as they can cause serious cuts. Moreover, you must try not to be an engineer and try to fix parts that are completely new to you. You might end up making the situation a lot worse than it actually is.
The best thing to keep your lawnmower in good, working condition is to keep it as clean and lubricated as possible. The internal parts must be carefully cleaned of any remaining grass or dust after it has been used, as these can clog up the machinery from within.
