How to Repair a Dishwasher
Washing dishes manually can be a monotonous and frustrating task. Any person who has washed dishes on his own knows the difficulty. The dishwasher has made the task of washing quick and convenient. However, a dishwasher can get damaged and fail to clean efficiently or drain the water. You can avoid repairing costs by carrying out the basic repairs yourself.
The repairing task can be started by opening the kick panel at the back of the dishwasher. Next, you need to follow certain steps,
First, check the circuit breaker and plug, in case you feel the dishwasher is not working optimally. If both these devices are functioning properly, then check the selector switch, timer and door. Any of the damaged parts must be replaced. In case all these parts are working well, contact a technician as there could be an internal error.
The problem can also be because of inadequacy of water in the dishwasher. It is advisable that you check if the shut-off water valve under the sink of the kitchen is on. There is a possibility that the machine may have a defective water valve. In this case, it is advisable to take the help of a professional.
You should also check spray arms as they can get clogged and the functioning of the dishwasher can be hampered. In such a case, you can remove the clogged particles by hand. Hot water and not cold water is used to clean dishes. Moreover, the temperature of the water should be a minimum of 120 degrees. Enhance the cleaning task by adding soap to the water. In case, there is a hazy covering on the dishes, clean the machine with a dishwasher cleaner. However, it is advisable that you use the cleaner prescribed by the dishwasher manufacturer. In case the dishwasher does not drain, do not immediately call the technician. Make sure that the sink’s air gap is normal. If required you can unclog it. Then remove the upper covering and clean it properly. Also, clean the hosepipe that drains the water from dishwasher to the main drainage system. Reattach it after cleaning it.
If the drive belt of the machine is not working efficiently, replace it. The belt is used to drive the machine pump. It can get stretched out or broken. In case the parts of the drain impeller are broken, replace its broken parts.
Drain solenoid is the equipment installed in the machine that is used to drain water. There are times that it can get obstructed or clogged. You can clean it on your own or replace it. In case the motor is jammed, spin it by hand. If you still cannot make it work, replace it.
