How to Groom a Poodle
A poodle is well-known for how its fur is typically groomed, but a lot of other things go into grooming a poodle as well. If you own a poodle, you too can achieve that famous look without paying a pretty penny for it. Here’s how you can groom your poodle.
Tools
Slicker brush
Metal comb
Mat rake
Splitter
Dog soap
Dog shampoo
Dog nail clippers
Procedure
Use metal combs and your slicker brush to brush your poodle’s double coat. The double coat is basically made up of the guard coat and the undercoat. While the guard coat is relatively easy to keep untangled, the undercoat needs to be regularly brushed to prevent from tangling and matting.

If you do run into tangles, use the splitter and the mat rake to sort them out. You have to practice some patience to not hurt your poodle while you untangle its fur.
Wash your poodle once a month with the proper soap and/or shampoo. Bathing is a part of any pet dog’s life, so it’s best if you train your poodle early to accept it.
Check your poodles ears for ear mites. Use your fur clippers to get rid of excessive ear hair growth.
Like any dog, your poodle also has to have its teeth checked to make sure they are scaled properly. Brush your poodle’s teeth everyday or feed your poodle dog food that’s made to protect its teeth. You should also go to a veterinary dentist to ensure that your poodle’s teeth are properly scaled.
Trim your poodle’s nails regularly using dog nail clippers. However, if you take your poodle out to walks regularly, their nails won’t get too long and you won’t have to clip them yourself.
Talk with a poodle groomer on what fur cut suits your poodle the best. This is especially important if you plan to enter your poodle in dog shows. There are different rules you need to observe. It’s also important that you train your poodle early on to behave and keep still when getting its fur trimmed.
