Most car models today come with an existing radio tuner. If you want to upgrade to a new radio system, the first thing you need to do is remove the existing old unit off your vehicle. After doing so, you are ready to install the new radio on your car.
Installation Steps and Precautions
Remove the metal sleeve from the new radio. Insert the cage in the opening of your dashboard where your old unit was located. Push the sleeve inward until its lips meet the edge of the dashboard opening. You also have the option of bending the top and bottom part of the sleeve until they meet in the middle so that you can place it inside the opening more easily.
Take note that some sleeves are designed to have a top and bottom part, so make sure you won’t install it upside down. The majority of radios follow the standard DIN size and rectangular shape. If you’re new car radio is smaller, you’ll need to purchase a fascia adapter to make the dash opening smaller.
Then, you need to bend the sleeve’s tabs outwards. This will ensure the secure position of the cage inside the dash. A small screwdriver can assist you with the task, as can other right-angled hand tools.
The various connection wires of the car radio system can usually be found in the same opening. You’ll usually need to connect two wires: the lead and the aerial lead. You won’t find it hard to match the wire connections. You can easily buy harness adapters from car accessory shops for wires with irregularly-shaped wire connectors.
Temporarily place the radio inside the cage and see if it’s working well. One of the things you can do is save a radio station in the tuner, then turn off your engine. If the same radio station is still saved after turning your engine back on, you can wrap up your car radio installation. Push the radio full into the cage. You’ll hear a click when it reaches its proper position – a sign that it’s locked in place and that your radio is ready for use.
