Sirius Satellite Radio is one of the two radio subscription services offered in the United States and Canada, the other one being XM Satellite Radio. There are basically two ways of installing Sirius Radio in your car: wireless and direct connections. In general, you can expect better sound quality from direct connection.
Wireless Connection
Sirius Radio units have a built-in FM transmitter that sends audio signals to an existing radio in your car. This means that you don’t have to remove your FM tuner when using it. What you do instead is to turn off Sirius Radio and find a frequency in your tuner that is not broadcasting in your locale. You may save this frequency in your tuner for easier access next time.
You may now turn on your Sirius Radio transmitter. By default, Sirius Radio transmits to 88.1, but you need to match it with the frequency of your tuner. Refer to your manual for detailed instructions on how to do this. Your FM tuner will now receive the feeds coming from your Sirius Radio unit. If you’re a frequent traveler, you may need to find other FM channels that are not broadcasting as you move to another city or state and set Sirius Radio to match these frequencies.
Direct Connections
You have two options when installing Sirius Radio to your car directly or through the use of wires. Both of these installation methods prevent the possible interference of FM signals observed in wireless connections. If your car’s radio tuner has an AUX IN or LINE IN feature, you’re in luck – Sirius Radio sounds best when this feature is utilized. You simply need to purchase a cable that connects from the AUX IN or LINE IN port of your tuner (varying in size) to the LINE OUT port of Sirius Radio (1/8” male connector).
If your car’s tuner doesn’t have an AUX IN or LINE OUT port, then you’ll need to purchase an accessory called a cassette adapter. This adapter can be connected to the LINE OUT port of your Sirius radio and can be plugged to your car’s cassette slot. The first method of wired connection, though, is still better than this option.
