When you are applying for different jobs, it is important that you hand in a different resume tailored specifically for each job. To this end, it is sometimes easiest to keep one long resume on your computer (often three or four pages) with all of your past experience. Then, when it comes time to apply for a certain job, you can delete all of the unnecessary items, while still being sure not to forget any of your best features.
There are three major types of resumes:
The Chronological Resume
The most common kind of resume
Used when you have relevant work experience in the field
Always use reverse chronological order (start with the most current)
The Functional Resume
Used when you have very little experience (i.e. recent graduates)
Used if you are switching fields
Highlights skills and not experience
The Combined Chronological/Functional Resume
You can combine a Chronological and Functional approach as long as you maintain a consistent organizational system
Remember, choose the resume that highlights your skills!
