Why do sunflowers face the sun ?

1 Answer

Answer :

Different types of hormones help in plant growth and physical activity. One such hormone is auxin. Among the various functions of the auxin hormone are stem and leaf growth. This auxin hormone is again responsible for the phototropic action. The reaction of plants with light is phototropic. The side of the auxin hormone that does not receive sunlight, that is, the side where there is shade, grows rapidly. It lowers the pH in the part of the plant where it resides . As a result, its cellulose cells rupture. This creates extra stress. This pressure forces the sunflower to turn towards the sun. Full sunflower but does not turn , facing east.
