Namdev was a leading poet-saint of the Indian medieval period, who wrote in the Marathi language. Namdev wrote a number of abhangas (hymns). Some of his verses are included in the Adi Granth (“First Book”), the sacred scriptures of Sikhism. He was widely respected by Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs.
