Rome, Berlin and Tokyo are the capital cities of Italy, Germany and Japan respectively. Thus, the military alliance among these countries during the Second World War is known as the Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis. These three countries together were called the Axis Powers. Hitler demanded Danzig for two reasons: (i) The city of Danzig was inhabited mainly by the Germans. (ii) By occupying the Danzig Corridor, he could connect East Prussia with Germany. Hitler accused Poland for committing atrocities against Germans living there and attacked Poland on 1st September 1939.
