Briefly explain as to how the arms act infused the sense of national pride among the people of India. -SST 10th

1 Answer

Answer :

The Arms Act: The Arms Act of **** Lytton declared that no Indian would keep any arm without obtaining a license for its possession. On the other hand, Englishmen were allowed to keep not only one but several arms without any license. This was very humiliating for the Indians, Europeans were made an exception to this law of the land. Naturally the Indians felt bitter and they began to believe that the British wanted to rule over India for all times to come. This thought infused in them a very strong desire to throw out the British from India. Surendra Nath Banerjee remarked ‘The Arms Act imposed on us a badge of racial inferiority.’
