(i) Cotton weavers faced two problems. Their export market collapsed, and the local market shrank being glutted with Manchester imports. The imported machine-made goods were cheaper and of better quality. (ii) Due to American civil war Britain turned to India for cotton. As raw cotton exports increased prices of raw cotton shot up. Indian weavers were starved of supplies and forced to buy at exorbitant prices. (iii) By the end of 19th century, factories in India began production, flooding the market with machine-goods.
