(a) Rice is the most important food crop (Kharif crop) of India. India holds the second position in rice production after China. (b) For rice cultivation, a high temperature of 25°C and above and high humidity with an annual rainfall of 100 cms is required. (c) Four major regions of rice cultivation are:Plains of North IndiaPlains of North-Eastern IndiaCoastal areasDeltaic regions. (d) Irrigated rice is produced in Punjab, Haryana, Western Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan. The development of a dense network of canals and tubewells has made it possible to grow rice in these states which receive less rainfall.
