I have tried to do that but we have a woodstove and it gets too warm, but if you have a ccoler early morning window that gets a little sun and then the  strong sun passes over, it might work.,  Rotate the plant, use a bigger top with good drainage, stones in the bottom on a plate...it might work.  My sister used a big basement window.  I love fresh herbs.  Happy Spring.  Have you ever thought of making an outside one protected by heavy glass and put the plants in the ground surrounded by hay bales and put a heavy glass on top with weights to hold it down, or make something on a slant against the house.and protect it to keep the cold out...................
