Wow Kathy, that is great to have a poinsettia that tall!  I have only read about them being heirloom plants, yet to see one, you must send a pic when you have a moment. Kathy you probably want to cut to the maximum recommended which is 4 to 5 inches from the tip of the branch.  I'm not sure if you have done this yet but you will have to control the growth of the branches.
